Hi, I’m Amy.
I want us all back to a place of connection…a place we may not even remember but it is IN US ALL and always has been. Connection with knowing. Connection with really being honest. Connection with timelessness. Connection with saying it like it really is, so human intimacy can truly happen. Connection with experiencing life not matter what it brings because you are alive in it all! Let’s drop ideas of right and wrong because those just send us all on a self righteous wild goose chase. And being on that wild goose chase keeps us from allowing the fullness that is possible in life.
I was an overly honest kid and teenager who got very skilled at reading the nuances and looks of surprise I got from others when I would say what was apparently unexpected. I tried not to be weird -- to tame myself, to put forward more of what was expected. It didn't work. (Fun fact: this website was originally called Weird is Useful…because I wanted to make my weird useful)
I got a BS in Psychology because I love the inner world, depth, and connections. But I still wanted fewer limits than psychology at that time offered. Not lifestyle limits, but limits on what association's I could play with, how far I could go out of the norm for the sake of considering and finding answers. Plus, as much as I love introspection and ideas, at a certain point, they can become too much abstraction for me to get lost in.
I am an action type of person, and I wanted more of that. So I took a detour, performing and teaching aerial dance for 20 years, instead of fully embarking on a career in psychology. It took care of my active side and surprisingly I still stayed more connected with psychology and personal growth work than I ever thought I would as a dance instructor. The work that we did as my students learned aerial dance felt extra impactful and therapeutic. Our work together was playful, active and experiential, and therefore allowed my students to go way deeper than they ever would have with simply ideas.
I started pulling from not only my experience teaching dance, but also my own life experience with play (having kids further confirmed my theory that play brings realness, aliveness and the most satisfying growth) to create the connection games on this site -- to create "Bring Connection Back."
I guess I would say that my belief, that nothing is off-limits, that weird can be useful… broadens my scope of the possible, doable, and potentially playful ways in which we, as humans, can bring connection back. And that is what I hope to offer!
PROJECTS I OFFER WITH ALL MY LOVE:
I created Bring Connection Back Games so that growth and meaning could be so much more than just listening to new ideas and advice. You are playing a game. There isn’t an ideology on what you should do. You are trying your own experiments and finding your own answers.
Our Connection Games and FREE Community were both created to be a prime playing field where you have the opportunity be a dynamic participant and smile until your cheeks hurt. You must be fully engaged to accept the challenges, dares, games -- to allow yourself to really feel the experience in action. This personal acceptance, these risks, the embodied doing and playing, will allow you to fully soak in the deepening work. You become so immersed in the joy of action, playfulness and being alive that it allows you to grow and expand into a more connected being, in a natural, seamless way. Nothing to remember to do, you just get to be the inherent you because play brought it to life.
Several times a month, I create podcast episodes about the most inspiring connections I am seeing, parallels I am drawing, deep questions I am asking, and raw, real-life things that are bouncing around in my inner world. Vulnerability and real-talk honesty have always been HOME to me. With each episode, I am inviting you into that home to share the cozy space of taking a real look at everyday stuff to see if there are more layers to experience and be energized by.
Connecting things and seeing the layers within like this makes my life richer. It helps keep my head on straight. It amuses and inspires me like a fun puzzle. It grows and expands me. And feels playful at the same time. When playfulness and expansion meet, that is where the real magic happens! So, of course I want to share that!
Let’s bask in that magic together. Step into my cozy HOME (aka podcasts) of openness for some sarcasm, deep thoughts, silliness, embarrassing stories, new perspective and some CONNECTION.
SO….
I always look at the "About" page first when I’m checking something out because I want to get a glimpse of the person behind it…figure out who they are and if they feel REAL by my subjective, gut feeling standards. So, even though I feel super shy about it (originally I didn't even want my name or photo anywhere on this site), it would be hypocritical for me not to put something out that gives you a feel for me.
So, my teenage daughter/ site photographer put together some real life photos. They are NOT the picture perfect standout social media type highlights, but the real everyday. So if you are interested, here you go.
